Many patients skip their annual eye exam when their vision feels fine. However, a comprehensive eye exam is about much more than just checking your prescription.
Eye exams are one of the few ways to detect conditions like glaucoma, macular degeneration, and diabetic retinopathy early — before you notice any symptoms. By the time vision changes are noticeable, significant and irreversible damage may have already occurred.
What We Check During a Comprehensive Exam
- Visual acuity and prescription
- Eye pressure (glaucoma screening)
- Retinal health
- Corneal health
- Color vision and depth perception
- Eye muscle coordination
We recommend a comprehensive eye exam at least once a year for adults, and more frequently for patients with diabetes, high blood pressure, or a family history of eye disease.
